The start of a new year is always slow for new music. This album should get you through until the new tunes come out. Indie Rock band The War on Drugs hit the scene in March 2014 with Red Eyes, and the Indie scene gave a collective shout of joy.
The band released its first studio album WagonWheel Blues back in 2008. Following this one of the band’s originators Kurt Vile left to focus on his solo career. Their next album Slave Ambient was greeted with critical acclaim, and led to extensive touring.
This touring led to extensive loneliness and depression for the band’s primary songwriter Granduciel, and inspired the darkness felt throughout Lost In a Dream . Don’t let the darkness put you off though, this catchy indie album will keep you going through the dim January evenings.

Future Islands crashed into our lives this year following their EPIC David Letterman performance. We honestly don’t know how they’ve gone under the radar for so long. Shara Warden, also known has Mr Brightest Diamond, has just released this surpising track. Wait for those sweet trumpets!
As impressive as her list of recent collaborators, Shara Worden’s voice and arresting live performances have left audiences thunderstruck from the Sydney Opera house to Lincoln Center to the House of Blues. She’s performed under the experimental-pop moniker My Brightest Diamond for the last seven years, and counts The National, The Decemberists, Bon Iver, David Byrne as friends and fans.
Nottingham four-piece Amber Run are a band with a lot of feels. This eery easy listener is drip fed with a solid beat and light synth. A nice tune.
Having deliberately chosen a name with no obvious connotations, Amber Run are determined to stand aside from the herd. “I’d rather be timeless than cool,” says Joe. “We’re not writing edgy music that sounds like 2014 – it’s music for the whole decade, not just for now. We want people to be coming back to our music in 20 years.”
Amber Run just got the green light to start sweeping up music lovers for all the ages. From tiny sparks…
