Amber Run ‘I Found’ Song of the Day 15th Sept 2014

Nottingham four-piece Amber Run are a band with a lot of feels. This eery easy listener is drip fed with a solid beat and light synth. A nice tune.

ARTIST INFO
Having deliberately chosen a name with no obvious connotations, Amber Run are determined to stand aside from the herd. “I’d rather be timeless than cool,” says Joe. “We’re not writing edgy music that sounds like 2014 – it’s music for the whole decade, not just for now. We want people to be coming back to our music in 20 years.”

Amber Run just got the green light to start sweeping up music lovers for all the ages. From tiny sparks…

The Derevolutions ‘Now You Know My Name’ Song of the Day 9th April 2014

With so many bands copying the sounds of Two Door Cinema Club and Chvrches at the moment, at least The Derevolutions turn it into an evolution as opposed to a carbon copy. The start of this track is ANOTHER knock off of the Two Door Cinema Club guitar riffs, but suddenly swings into something fun and fresh. Cool title, too…

Fight Like Apes ‘Crouching Bees’ *Irish* Song of the Day 6th April 2014

Fight Like Apes faced some serious controversy last year, when they tried to raise thousands of euro from a fundit campaign to buy a tour van. The critics called it a ‘bid for free money’. But there is something cool about a band’s fans getting them back on the road. We doubt people would have donated if they didn’t love Fight Like Apes. Anyway, they’re back, with a brand new track, ‘Crouching Bees’ from their new offering ‘Whigfield Sextape’.

Future Islands ‘A Dream of You and Me’ Song of the Day 5th April 2014

Synthpop band Future Islands have popped out of Maryland and into the spotlight following their epic performance on David Letterman a coupld of weeks back. Most of the gossip surrounded lead singer Samuel T. Herring’s bizarre dance moves. But further investigation has uncovered that the band don’t have to rely on their dance moves – they make damn good songs too. Check it out.

Pixies ‘Magdalena’ Song of the Day 4th April 2014

We’ve got a feeling this will hit depressing rock-karaoke bars soon.

Pixies Magdalena Lyrics
I needed something to eat
I took a walk down the street
I came to 318
Saw my sweet Magdalene

Magdalena, you’re the meanest, oh
Magdalena, you’re the meanest, oh
Magdalena, sweet Magdalene

I went down deep in her hive
One year just turned into five
Night came and then it was gone
How did you get so strong

Magdalena, just between us, oh
You’re the meanest, and the leanest, oh
Magdalena, how’d you get so strong

Magdalena, Magdalena, oh
Magdalena, Magdalena, oh
Magdalena

And then we started to drag
Me and my Maggie-mag-mag
I begged her please no no no
She said she got to go go go go go go

*Irish* Ones To Watch – Sal Vitro

With the dawn of The Hot Sprockets, rock is making a comeback in good ‘ol Ireland. And here’s another rock group. Sal Vitro are a dynamic and gritty stomp rock band, noted for their mesmerising live performances. Mixing ingredients from rock ‘n’ roll, blues, funk, soul and pop, they have created a sound and style all of their own.

Time for a bit of angst in the form of Fabo Music’s ‘Everyday is the women’s Day’. Don’t bother trying to search them out online. Our efforts have proved futile. Just enjoy the tune.
